What is the difference between the sleeve and wraparound version?
Question by: Ryan on Mar 19, 2010, 3:32 PM
A sleeve version of this knee brace requires you to remove your shoe and slide the knee brace over your foot.

A wraparound knee brace is applied to the knee by wrapping it around and attaching it with Velcro.

Each version has it's own pros and cons:

Sleeve Knee Brace
Pros: Fits more snugly and stays in place. Once it's on it's requires little adjustment

Cons: Harder to get on and off, doesn't work well over pants

Wraparound Knee Brace
Pros: Easier to apply especially for those with less hand strength, can be worn over thin pants, can be tightened or loosened for a more adjustable fit. Great for users who can't bend over as well and have trouble getting a sleeve on or off.

Cons: Velcro can loosen during activity requiring a quick tightening of the Velcro.

What does Open Popliteal mean?
Question by: Alison on Mar 25, 2010, 10:31 AM
The popliteal describes the area in the back of the knee where your knee bends. When a knee brace has an opening the back we say it has an "Open Popliteal". The benefits of an open popliteal knee brace is they tend to be more comfortable than other knee braces that are closed in the back. There is less pinching of the material when your knee is bent. They are also a bit cooler as more skin is exposed.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I had undergone an ACL surgery almost 10 years ago now. And during this 10 years I never played major sports.

As of today I still feel that my ACLK is not so effective, as knee is quite free, and I fear that it might give away easily.

Now I would like to play sports like Squash, Tennis , Basket ball can you please advise the best brace which should be suitable.
Question by: Stephen on Apr 8, 2010, 7:45 AM
I understand that you are looking for an ACL brace that is geared for a more active lifestyle. Since you aren't playing any contact sports, I'll reccommend a non-rigid brace.

Take a look at the DonJoy PlayMaker.

https://www.donjoystore.com/donjoy-drytex-playmaker-wraparound-sleeve

In addition to providing superior ACL support, the Playmaker is an extremely comfortable brace to wear. A low profile design, breathable fabric, and polycentric hinges that allow for uninhibited movement of the knee make this brace a favorite amongst athletes.

The DonJoy Playmaker knee brace is available as a sleeve or wraparound brace, and with or without open popliteal cutout (opening behind the knee)

What knee brace is best for runners? I recently had ACL reconstruction and would like to ease back into running and possibly no contact sport (volleyball, basketball, etc). What knee brace do you recommend?

Thanks!
Question by: Jun on Apr 11, 2010, 5:46 PM
The Donjoy Drytex Playmaker is a great brace to wear if you are trying to ease back into any athletic activity. It will protect and stabalize the ACL/MCL/LCL/PCL ligaments while active. We recommend wearing the cooler more breathable Drytex version for added comfort since you will be running and playing sports in the brace.

I have moderate osteoarthritis with a moderate ACL tear. Which brace would be right for me?
Question by: Linda on May 16, 2010, 6:43 PM
If your doctor has diagnosed you with compartmental OA then one of our OA braces would be best. With an ACL tear the OA Adjuster is recommended. We recommend talking to your doctor to see if an OA brace is needed, if all you need is ligament support and stability the Playmaker is the best choice. It will stabilize your ACL to help prevent further injury.

My daughter recently strained her knee while playing softball. An MRI revealed a 5-10% tear in her ACL and a medial meniscus tear. She has been under a drs. care but he recently released her to play whatever she wants without a brace. He opted not to do an ACL surgery at this time and thinks the meniscus will heal on its own. I concerned about her further tearing her ACL although the doctor said it is stable. She is in basketball, volleyball, softball, and is a runner. She wants to continue doing these things and I would feel better if she wore a brace for support. She just recently finished her freshman year. I would like for her to get a brace so she can play those sports in her high school career. What do you recommend?
Question by: Sandy on May 23, 2010, 3:52 AM
Ultimately her doctor will know best. But the DonJoy Playmaker Knee Brace would be a good choice for lower impact activities like you mentioned. A more rigid knee brace like the DonJoy FullForce would be the next step up in the amount of protect. The more rigid the materials a knee brace is made from the more protection it typically offers. Check with her doctor to see if the DonJoy Playmaker will be good for her ACL issue.

Hi, I am looking for a knee support/brace that I can wear while playing golf, one that will allow me to walk but restrict any twisting action during my swing. The main aim is to preserve what medial meniscus I have left in my right knee. In the past 18 months I have torn the medial meniscus in my right knee twice, both times in the same area and both times I have had surgery to remove the tear. I am also showing early signs of arthritis so I may also need to consider this when choosing a support. Do you have a brace that you can recommend?
Question by: Graham on Jun 7, 2010, 10:28 PM
The Donjoy Playmaker Knee Brace is an ideal brace for your type of injury and works great while playing golf. The medial and lateral hinges provide excellent ligament support and stabilizes your knee. The Drytex material is great for warmer weather as it allows for more airflow.

I am a 3 sport athlete and play basketball, softball and volleyball. I recently was diagnosed with a fat pad injury, but also have a severe hyperextension problem. Earlier in the injury I had an acl sprain as well. My therapist is giving me a brace, but isn't sure which one. What do you recommend?
Question by: Amy on Jul 22, 2010, 1:12 PM
We actually recommend the DonJoy Full Force Knee Brace. This will help protect against further injury, and prevent hyper extension. Follow the link for more product information.

I am intersted in drytex playmaker wraparound /sleeve. I only will use it for surfing. The question is does all that neoprene make it heavier in the water?

Regards
Ilya Evans
Question by: ilya evans on Sep 1, 2010, 12:46 PM
Hello,

The Neoprene material is same material used in a surfers wetsuit. The brace will get heavier in the water, but not to the point where it becomes unusable.

If you use this brace in salt water, be sure to rinse with fresh water after use.

I had artroscopic surgury to excise damaged portions of both my medial menisci and lateral menisci. During surgury my ACL wa found to be completely torn. I opted not to undergo ACL repair surgury. If I intend to play softball/golf which brace would you believe best for me.
