What is the difference between the Playmaker II FourcePoint and the DonJoy Playmaker II Knee Brace? Is it a difference in the hinge range of motion? Also, are these sleeves with the velcro tightening straps?
Question by: Deidre East on Oct 31, 2013, 2:00 PM
Deidre East,
The difference between the Playmaker II and the Playmaker II FourcePoint is the FourcePoint hinge. FourcePoint Technology was developed to further protect the ACL. The patented FourcePoint hinges are designed to react during leg extension and offer an increasing resistance in the last 35 degrees of extension, in order to reduce extension shock and increase posterior tibial loads. The hinge has three adjustment settings to vary the amount of resistance to meet the specification of the physician's protocols and/or the patient's comfort.
The Playmaker II with standard hinge can be a wrap around or a sleeve with the Velcro strapping. The Playmaker II FourcePoint comes only in the sleeve option.
Thank you for your question and for contacting DJO.

I just had acl and meniscus surgery. my doctor told me I could go back to playing tennis here in a few months. and I was looking for a type of sports brace that I would still have mobility when I play. any suggestions?
Question by: skylar on Jan 15, 2014, 7:11 PM
Skylar
Since you just had surgery, you should look at the rigid ligament knee braces. The DonJoy FullForce ligament brace would be the best brace for you to allow you to play tennis. The brace has a fourcepoint hinge and our four-points of leverage strapping system that will give you the protection you need. Both of these technologies have been clinically proven to reduce ACL tears up to 50%. Take a look at the brace here: https://www.donjoystore.com/donjoy-fullforce-ligament-knee-brace

I had ACL reconstruction and menisectomy on my left knee before and now whenever i play i can feel some instability. I can play basketball but cannot fully trust exerting 100% pressure on my left knee especially running fast then jumping off my left leg. I also I believe my MCL was injured at the same time before (but was never repaired) and maybe causing to the instability

Is the playmaker II appropriate for my injury? What is the difference of playmaker v.s. playmaker II?
Question by: Aaron on May 10, 2014, 9:17 PM
Aaron
If your ACL Reconstruction was a year or less ago then you should be considering a rigid knee brace such as the DonJoy Full Force ligament knee Brace: https://www.donjoystore.com/donjoy-fullforce-ligament-knee-brace If the surgery was long er than a year ago then the playmaker II can work. The Playmaker II has a lower profile hinge, different cooler material and easier strap ends than the original Playmaker. The Playmaker II comes in the fourcepoint hinge which the Playmaker does not

In addition to my previous question..

Does the Playmaker II Fourcepoint also provide support for MCL and LCL instabilities?

Does the Playmaker II provide support for ACL?

I had ACL reconstruction and Menisectomy more than 5 yrs ago and now I still feel instability in my knee. I know my MCL/LCL was also injured so I would like support for it as well.

Is the playmaker II or playmkaer II fourcepoint more applicable for me?
Question by: Aaron on May 21, 2014, 12:48 AM
Aaron
The playmaker will give support for all of your ligaments including the MCL and the LCL. The Fourcepoint hinge is specifically for the ACL but having a hinge of any kind will support the MCL and LCL

I tore my meniscus playing football and I was wondering if this would be a good brace for my injury and is ot for contact sports such as football
Question by: joe t on Aug 21, 2014, 6:26 PM
Joe
As I answered previously the Playmaker is a acceptable brace to wear for a meniscus tear and you can wear it playing football. If you are asking what is the best brace to get for contact sports to prevent injury then the answer would be the DonJoy Armor with fourcepoint hinge. https://www.donjoystore.com/donjoy-armor-knee-brace-with-fourcepoint-hinge

I just started my new job. I will be working 8 hrs a day & I am up & down for most of my day. I will also be walking on a avg. of 8-10 miles a day. I tore my acl 15 yrs ago & I'm just starting to notice some arthritis pain. I was wondering if the playmaker 2 fourcepoint would be a good fit for me.
Question by: Josh Grim on Sep 27, 2014, 10:00 AM
Josh
The Playmaker II with fourcepoint will provide moderate support to the knee and the fourcepoint hinge resists extension slightly to protct the ACL. You may not need that hinge since your just wearing this brace for work. The standard hinge will be sufficient support for mild athritis. If you are experiencing instability this brace would be great but if you are experiencing pain in the front of the knee you might want to take a look at the Reaction Web Knee brace. https://www.donjoystore.com/donjoy-reaction-knee-brace The Reaction is for those who have mild arthrits and may suffer from anterior knee pain. It helps decrease the pain

I have a partial ACL tear and was recommended to rehab and brace. I play basketball, just open gym or an occasional league here and there. I was wondering if the playmaker II forcepoint would be a good brace? And also what size to get, my measurements (checked a couple times, different people even) 20 1/2 thigh, 15 calf, and 16 1/2 knee.
Question by: Zach on Jan 28, 2015, 1:18 PM
Zach
The Playmaker II with the fourcepoint hinge is a very good choice. The brace will protect your knee after rehab and will train both knees to avoid the dangerous position in which the ACL is stressed the most. With that brace you should go with the medium

I had microfracture and meniscus cleanup surgury 9 months ago. I also had a moderate tear to my ACL, and a mild to moderate tear of my MCL and LCL that were not reconstructed. I was an avid runner before this and am looking to get back into in. What brace would you recommend for the best ACL support but also all around knee stability?
Question by: Sean Mathieu on Apr 18, 2015, 2:29 PM
Sean
The Playmaker II Fource point will give your knee the all around support you are looking for as well as ACL protection. The hinge is specifically designed to help train the knee to avoid that dangerous position in which the ACL can be stressed. You can wear this brace while running and it should be comfortable.
Answer by: Admin on Apr 18, 2015, 2:29 PM
My thigh measures 21-1/2", my knee measures 14-3/4", and my calf measures 15-1/4". Would a medium or a large be better? Would the medium want to ride down on the leg if the thigh area is to tight?
Question by: Rich on Jul 19, 2015, 6:56 PM
Rich
You may want to try the medium but it will be snug on the thigh. A large will be too big in the knee and calf

I know the DonJoy Defiance lll is better for contact sports like football. My son owns a pair, but insist that they slow him down too much for the winged-T offense they run. Will the DonJoy Playmaker be less cumbersome than the Defiance and allow him to move faster?
Thanks
Question by: Greg McGuire on Aug 26, 2015, 5:11 PM
Hello,

Thank you for contacting Betterbraces. The Donjoy Defiance is an ACL brace that is typically used after ACL surgery or to prevent ACL injury. This brace allows full range of motion, and will not restrict your son from playing football. The Playmaker is a different brace, this brace protects the MCL and LCL from injury, and protects very light support to the ACL. If your son is looking for MCL/LCL support and protection then the playmaker would be a good option.

Have a Great Day.
