I have dislocated my kneecap on my right knee 3 times now. But I am a long distance runner. Is this the best brace for my situation? Also I have dislocated my left kneecap once but it feels strong. Should I wear the same brace on the left knee as my right when I return to running?
Question by: Stephanie on Mar 24, 2010, 8:10 PM
The DonJoy Performer Patella Knee Support is a terrific brace for keeping your knee cap aligned during activity. Since you are a long distance runner you might want to look at a lighter weight brace that will be a bit more ideal for running. Have a look at the DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite (https://www.donjoystore.com/donjoy-tru-pull-lite-12). It's primary function is to help with patella tracking while being lighter and cooler than this Performer Patella which is larger overall and therefore supports the entire knee not just the knee cap.

I am an avid basketball player, and i have patella chondromalacia in both my knees. Will this knee brace provide me with optimal support? Also, as of recent my knees tend to accumulate fluid and swell up when I play sports, will this prevent any additional swelling or help keep everything in order?
Question by: Bobby on Jun 7, 2010, 2:08 PM
This knee support would be good choice for your condition. The compression and support it provides to your knee should help with your patella chondromalacia and swelling your experiencing.

I partially tore my ACL back in November. Spring football is around the corner, wondering if this is a good product to prevent another tare?
Question by: Joseph on Feb 14, 2011, 4:33 PM
If you want to have ACL protection during sports, you'll need something desgined to withstand more activity.
I have had reconsructive surgery after tearing an ACL. I am looking to get out of the ACL brace that was needed after the surgery (approx. 15 months ago). Is this a good alternative to the ACL brace, which at this point is a little too much brace.

The Donjoy Playmaker or the Donjoy Hinged Knee would be a better choice for your condition and activity level.

I have sprained my left knee five times, but it feels stronger now since I have done phisical theraphy, but my patella still moves out of place easy. I play soccer alot and need a brace for running and twisting, will this work?

Based on your injury and athletics, I'd recommend the Donjoy Tru Pull Lite.

My daughter plays Volleyball and dislocated her kneecap. the Dr. said she may be prone to this in both kneecaps due to how her knees are formed. She had used a J brace, it isnt holding up that well as well as her kneecap doesnt fit into the hole. she has also used a smaller one similar to the True Pull light but the straps stretch so feel loose. does the Performer offer the support the J brace does but maybe this will be easier to put on.
Question by: Mary on Jul 21, 2011, 7:13 PM
No the Perform is not going to provide any more support than the J brace, or the Tru-pull Lite. I would suggest looking at the Tru-pull Advanced System. It is going to provide the most support for the patella.

I play tennis. Can this brace be fully flexed since it has stays on each side?
Thanks.

Yes, you can bend your knee normally in the brace.

I tore my ACL last October. I do not have a high activity level, but will like to change that since I will be starting college next week. I noticed there is an ACL sleeve that is the same price as this patella support, but I didn't know if the ACL sleeve had Velcro straps. The straps are very important as I have an odd shaped leg which did not work well with my bulky brace I received post op. the Velcro straps may help keep this brace in place and will be such a relief as I'm walking.
Please help. (:

You should check out the Playmaker it is designed for ACL instability. Or the custom made Defiance or Defiance III.

Hi, I have had a history of patella subluxations due to a lateral tracking patella, developed chondromalacia and finally had lateral release surgery a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I have increased my weight lifting activity doing more Olympic lifting and began to have flare ups. I need a brace to support my patella and reduce the negative inflammatory effects of chondromalacia flare ups. Do you recommend this knee brace or would the DonJoy Lateral J Patella Knee Brace be a better fit for my weight lifting needs. Thanks
Question by: Mac on Jun 3, 2013, 7:11 PM
Hello Mac,
I would recommend the Tru-Pull Lite, it provides moderate support and is very comfortable due to its low profile. Its the shortest patella brace we have available. The Performer provides mild support to the patella, and is longer in length.
Your selection should be based on the amount of support you need, and desirable size of the brace, and type of activity you will be involved in.
Thanks for contacting Donjoy.

I have bilateral knee replacements done 15 years ago. The right knee replacement needs revision of the plastic spacer. But until surgery I need a brace big enough to fit my short ,heavy leg. When I walk or go down steps the right knee bows out to the right. Also the knee will shift left to right when I step down or bend over to tie my shoe.I will be traveling in Sept. in Italy.I will be doing a lot of walking and standing,I need a brace to give me support but also allow me to walk without rolling from side to side.Surgery is scheduled for October. My measurements are Thigh:261/2" ,Knee: 20" and calf :17"Thank-you
Question by: Linda Iannetta on Jul 24, 2013, 4:39 AM
Hello Linda,
I recommend the Playmaker in Wrap Around Style, your Quadriceps and Knee are XXL, and your calf is a Large. The Wrap Around will accomodate for the smaller calf size.
