All About Back Injuries
The back provides support for the head and the trunk of the human body. It's one of the strongest areas of the body and allows for a great deal of flexibility and movement. The vertebrae in the neck are called cervical vertebrae, the ones in the upper and mid back are thoracic vertebrae, and the ones in the lower back are the lumbar vertebrae. At the very bottom of the spine is the sacroiliac (SI) joint.
The muscles in the back connect the structures in your back with your shoulders, neck and hips. Back pain is very common in adults, and muscle strain is one of the lead causes of back pain.
