How to Prevent Painful Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, occurs when the tendon on the outer side of the elbow becomes inflamed and irritated. This causes pain and discomfort for the patient. It is often causes by repetitive movement of the arm and may happen during job activities such as painting or stocking shelves, or during sports activities, such as golfing and tennis. Tennis players are especially susceptible to tennis elbow (of course!) because of the way the arm moves during a tennis swing. In fact, more than 50% of tennis players suffer from tennis elbow. Lateral epicondylitis can also occur during other activities that require repetitive motion of the elbow.

The best thing to do with tennis elbow is to prevent it before it starts. Make sure to warm up and stretch before participating in activities that involve the elbow. Follow appropriate techniques during sports, such as the proper golf swing, to help avoid improper body movement.

One of the most important things is to wear tennis elbow braces on each arm. They can help give your elbows extra support to help prevent irritation to the tendons in the elbow joint. It does this by preventing the tendon from moving too far out of place, which is what causes the inflammation in the first place.
